For Christmas I asked for the Glossier Phase 1 set, because I’d heard good things about it and wanted to try something new and a little luxurious!
By the time Christmas actually rolled around, I’d completely forgotten I’d asked for it from my mum. I was thrilled when I unwrapped the box, it looked so clean and beautiful.
The Glossier Phase 1 Set comes with everything you need for basic skincare. It claims to be soothing, moisturising and conditioning, leaving you with soft dewy skin.
The Milky Jelly Cleanser was the product I was most excited to try. While I’ve tried tons of moisturisers, face wash is one of those things that I don’t think too hard about when purchasing, usually opting for something basic.
Glossier claims that this cleanser “dissolves makeup and grime”, leaving your face feeling “healthy and soft”.
Firstly – this does not dissolve makeup in the way you’d expect. Perhaps if you were wearing a sheer foundation and mascara it’d work, but applying this to dry skin, as per the instructions, on a full face, only smeared eyeliner down my cheeks and left most eye makeup behind after rinsing. I had to wash with it three times with a full face and even then needed to remove panda eyes with a wipe afterwards.
However, by using a wipe first to take off the bulk of my makeup, then cleansing with this, I do find it’s almost like a “deeper” clean, and that it does remove impurities and grime in the way you’d expect. I’ve been using it daily for a good couple of weeks now, and my skin does feel as clean and soft (and not tight!) as Glossier claims.
Despite it not dissolving makeup the way I’d hoped, I do love the results and would recommend this cleanser.
The Priming Moisturiser claims to be “light and buildable, for a dewy, smooth canvas.”
Straight to it – I love this stuff. I don’t know what it is about it, but it makes my skin look really good, instantly – even my mum commented on Boxing Day how good it looked!
It is really light and absorbs easily. My skin feels softer than ever and looks bright and clean. It does have a little bit of a greasy texture if you put loads on, and I have found that while I don’t usually have dry skin, my nose has been a little flaky due to having a cold, and no matter how much of this stuff I put on, it’s still pretty dry. However, I reckon a lot of that is to do with my constant nose blowing, but perhaps worth noting for those with exceptionally dry skin.
It also works as an excellent primer for makeup. I was worried my foundation would slide about etc. but I’ve actually found its very good at keeping everything put! If your skin isn’t too dry, I totally recommend this product!
Balm Dotcom claims to be the salve for everything. It’s a hydrating lip balm that can be used on chapped, dry skin, anywhere on your body.
My mum opted for the Original instead of a flavoured one, and I’m glad she did, because I’d like to try it first before any others.
Overall, I do really like the product. The balm has a waxy texture, a bit like really thick Vaseline, and has made my lips really soft and plump. It even seems to have evened out the colour – though that could just be because they’re hydrated now!
I also found it useful on my elbows when they get a little dry, and have been using it on the edges of my sore, chapped nose and it’s done the trick (though I still think my Palmers Lip Balm wins for clearing that up)
My ONLY issue with it is due to its waxy, dense texture, it’s SO difficult to squeeze out of the tube, and I really feel that by the time I get to the end of it, there’s still going to be a lot left in it that I just can’t get to. I think it’d perhaps be a lot better in a Vaseline style tin or Carmex type jar. Just something that makes it easy to get to.
Otherwise, I completely recommend the whole set. It does pretty much what it says on the tin, my skin feels soft and dewy and I’m definitely going to restock when I’m done with this lot. Maybe try the coconut Balm Dotcom next time?
While I’ve not been sponsored to promote Glossier (if only!) I do want to point out that purchasing the entire Phase 1 set is £8 cheaper than buying each product individually. And even if I run out of one before any of the others I’ll be buying the whole set again to make that saving!
Have you used any of Glossier’s other products? What should I try next? Let me know in the comments!
P.S. I also received a sample of Glossier You eau de parfum which I have tried once – it’s very musky, reminded me of old ladies, I’m really not sure I like it. I will let you know if I change my mind!
