Daily Essentials

So I figured for my first “Official” blog post, I should talk about something that I do daily, and a beauty regime is something that most people have on some level, whether it’s just cleaning your face and applying a moisturiser or layering makeup to create a flawless look, we all have a little routine in the mornings to maintain good hygiene and look presentable. So below are my daily essentials, and why I use them!

VO5 Frizz Free Cream has been a lifesaver for my hair. I home dye my hair and have done for years, and although I take good care of it by using decent conditioners and only washing it every other day, when it’s blow-dried it still has that little bit of ‘poof’ that makes me look like First Year Hermione Granger. This cream has changed the game though. Just a small amount smoothed through the lengths of my hair before I dry it means that not only is the frizz tamed, it has a silky feel and a lovely salon scent.

Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer is something I do not go a day without. Even if I’ve decided not to wear make-up, this moisturiser goes on without fail. You only need a tiny amount and it sinks into your skin beautifully, making it feel softer and looking smoother. It’s the perfect base for a foundation and stops my skin drying out. 100% recommend.

MUA ‘Undress Your Skin’ Liquid Glow is like the Number 1 no-makeup-makeup. It has a subtle shimmer and works as a glowing base for your foundation, a subtle highlighter or enhances your natural beauty used alone. I prefer to use this as a base underneath my foundation to give me that natural glow, however when I have used it on it’s own, I’ve had many compliments on how good my skin looks. The shimmer reflects light, blurring pores and imperfections without needing to fully make yourself up.

Bourjois Blush is one of those wonderful little items you pick up one day because it looked the perfect colour, and not only was it the perfect colour, but it makes your cheeks glow and smells divine. It’s not very often I would recommend a pressed powder for it’s scent but it is gorgeous. I don’t recommend you use the little brush that comes with the compact (streaks! eek!) but the domed shape is perfect for your own brush to pick up just enough powder to sweep across your cheeks and give you that instant boost of colour.

Freedom Eyebrow Gel was a random purchase from Amazon while I was hunting for a replacement for my trusty slimline eyebrow pencil. At the time I thought it might be some strange knock-off, but as it turns out, it’s a trusted brand even sold by Superdrug!
And even more to my surprise, after using it, it instantly replaced my pencil due to the ease of application and great colour payoff. I apply this using my angled brush from Smashbox, and a spoolie to brush my eyebrows into submission. I take a small amount and mix on a face wipe, so that the application is done in layers and I don’t end up looking like I’ve attacked my face with a sharpie. This gel produces the most natural looking brows and stays put all day.

Benefit’s Double the Lip was actually a freebie back when I used to buy Birchbox. I chose Lusty Rose because the colour was the closest to my own, and as it turns out it’s a lovely lipstick. To be blunt, the lipliner idea does not work. Having the two together makes for a bizarre unblended line around your lips and ultimately the application is a little clumsy, with the “liner” part being used up much faster than the lipstick part. As a generic lip colour, however, I totally recommend, and I’ll be looking for a lipstick in Lusty Rose as soon as this has run out!

Barry M Eye Define Liquid Liner has to be one of the best liners I’ve ever used. I have had a long history of eyeliner, ever since I first applied it during my “Emo phase” I have rarely left the house without it, my eyelids just don’t look right. Liquid eyeliner, however has never been my friend. I started out with pencil and worked my way up to gel, trying liquid multiple times along the way but always ending up with eyes like a panda. Then I tried this little beauty and not only does it go on perfectly, it stays put. Will not budge. Even after some pretty ugly crying, my wings were still intact. Love it!

I picked up Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara after watching one of Zoella’s videos on how much she loved it. I’ve not had a favourite mascara in years, since I picked up a No17 one with a huge brush that made my eyelashes look a million dollars. I couldn’t even tell you what it was called now, and I guarantee it’s not made anymore. So after reading a few reviews, I decided to give it a try, and it’s now made its way into my daily makeup routine. It goes on quite thick, so I don’t recommend it to anyone with thin or fair lashes, but it gives good length with only one or two coats, so you can have great lashes in seconds, perfect for when you’re rushing to work.

Finally, my favourite eyeshadow palette. Revolution Iconic 2. A beautiful selection of neutral colours, some with a subtle shimmer and all perfectly blendable. I use this almost every time I apply make up at the moment, the colour payoff is fantastic and I particularly love the gold and red shimmers. Reviews of this palette say it’s a great dupe for Naked 2, so if you love Urban Decay but love their price tag a little less, this is a budget friendly alternative I would totally recommend.
